(Rec. 9.40 a.m.) HOBART, This Day. The electric suction fan is working at the North Lyell mine. Helmeted men penetrated ' some of the levels, but found the gases very bad, though the absence of smoke indicated that the fire is out.
MINE RETURNS

■The Mt. Lyell returns from October 3rd to 30th inclusive show that 8143 tons of ore and also 309 tons from the Tharsis mine were treated by the converters and produced 196 tons of blister copper containing 193 tons of copper, 12.661 ounces of silver, and 287' ounces poid. The low output is due to the North Lyell disaster.
