HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. Th-s ordinary monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital ar.d Charitable Aid Ecard was held last evening. • There were present- I —Messrs H. Baigent (chairman), W. Lock, T'. Bell, W. N. Franklyn, P. Higgins, S. Hoult, T. Hcwetsoxi, Lowe, Allan, T._ A. H. Field, and Mi's Watson. Account's w-are passed for payment as follows :—'Hospital Account £342 15s 9d; Charitable Aid Account £271 8s 6d. The Chairman announced that the credit balance in the bank that dav was £751 Os lid. ' " RESIDENT. SURGEON'S REPORT. The Resident .Surgeon (Dr. Wash-bourn) reported that so far no application haci been received for .the vac-ant position of sister dt the Hospital, and he did not think one .would b-a- obtainable a.t the salary {£6s) offered. It neces- J sary that the wards should he in charge < of competent sisters. It was resolved ito further advertise- the position at a salary of £7O- a- year. Arising out of the Teport it was resolved, on the motion of Mr..' Allan, that the Chairman obtain an. estimate for submission to next meeting, as to the ccsi of erection, of a veranda- around tl:-j -men's shelter at the annexe. Several other small -matters were also dealt with. , ALEXANDRA HOME REPORT. The report of the Master of the Alexandra Home (Mr. F. .Li ley) was read. It was stated that everything was going alon# satisfactorily. Several requisitions .made were authorised. - - , As a mam;ber of the visiting committee, Mr. Hoult expressed himself highly pleased at the jyood state in which he. ; had. found the Home that day., RELIEVING OFFICER'S REPORT. The Teiport of the -Relieving OfficeT .(Mr Heyward) was read, and dealt with., CORRESPONDENCE. i An application from a woman separated from her husband askiiijg the Board to place her -two children in a home was agreed to, inquiries to 'be made with regard, to the husband. ' The Town 'Clerks of Nelson and Richmond, and the Clerks of the Murc-hison and Collingwocd 'County Councils reported to the Board's letter in reference to what support would be accorded if a sanitary inspector was appointed in Nelson. The replies were of a negative character. In .reply to the Southland Board, the Board resolved to approve of the principle that the Government Should educate defectives. OTHER BUSINESS. The action of 'the Chairman in tegaixl to the estate of Mi - . James Dall was approved. The Hospital' return showed 74 patients on the list, 35 being received during the month of October, and 22 left. Of the latter, 9 were cured, 9 relieved, 2 unrelieved, and 2 died,. „ After several other matters had been dealt with, the Board rose at 10.40 p.m.
