ENORMOUS INCREASE IN SYDNEY RECOMMENDATIONS TO MEETTHE PROBLEM. ( PKESS A S3OCIAT3ON. COPYRIGHT.) SYDNEY, Nov. 6. The Parliamentary Committee which inquired into the enormous increase in house rents, assigns as the causes the increase of population, the growing cost of labour and u:aterial. demolitions through resumption, the growing demand for cottages and houses resulting from ■prosperity, the increasing demand for cottages in preference to terrace houses, and in isolated cas-; j s. the Federal land tax. The recommendations of the comn.ittee include empowering the Government •Sa%'ings Bank to lend artisans 95 percent. on the cost of building houses, mak--ing available suitable Crown land about the suburbs, a vigorous policv. of house ■construi-tion by the - Government, and penritting people to live in canvas dwellings at Dacevville and in Centennial Park during t>he summer. The committee urges the introduction .of a Bill to regulate rents.
