AUCKLAND V SYDNEY.
THi mm OF NAVAL BASE. NOT TAKEN KINDLY IN AUSTRALIA. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (iiteceived 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY,■ This Day. The thirisfer of the. Naval ba£e to Auckland means a trade loss to Sydiley of £BO,OOO to £IOO,OOO atlnuftUy, Mr Kitchen, managing director of the Sydiley Soap and Candle Company, suggests as a remedy that the Commonwealth Government approach the Imperial authorities with a proposal to jointly appoint a victualling officel might act on behalf of both, buying for the Imperial and Australian fleet vessels. Then there would be a chance of competing against New Zealand. "If," (says Mr Kitchen) "New Zealand can supply goods at a lower price than Australia, then good luck to her; but the odds are we should keep most of the trade we have had before."
