PERSONAL MATTERS
At the special meeting of the Nelson City Cooncil last evening, the Mayor was o«>agratulated by members on his unopposed re-election to the chair.
H. G. Coombe. chief clerk at the kelson Post Office, left for Auckland by tthe Nikau yesterday on holiday leave. Air G. Menzies will act as chief clerk during Mr Coombe's absence.
Mr A. Simpson, official assignee at Wellington, is at present on a visit to Nelsonl •
The Prime Minister and the Hon. G. W. Russell have accepted invitations to be present- at the citizens" reception to be tendered to the Hon. A. M. Myers on Thursday. Other Ministers will probably be present.
Mother Marie St. Scholastiea's appointment as manager of St. Mary's Industrial School at Nelson has been approved by the Minister of Education.
The Hon. J. Colvin, Minister of Mines, arrived in Nelson last evening, having travelled overland from the West Coast. Mr J. A. Macalister, private secretary, accompanied the Minister. On Thursday evening, while passing through Murchison. Mr Colvin was heartily welcomed by residents, and congratulations offered on his attaining Ministerial rank. By this morning's steamer Mr Colvin left for Wellington.
A Blenheim wire states that Mr Geo. Coward, aged 89, died at his home at Blenheim. He was a very old identity. and had been 65 years in the colony. He was one of the first compositors in New working on the "Nelson Examiner " and he was one of the founders, of the first newspaper in Marlborough, the "Press." He retired frcm active work 20 years ago.
