RiWAKA. ROAD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the above Board was heid on April 4th, all the members being present. Correspondence was received from : Public Works Department, Nel.y.m, requesting a statement of liabilities at the 31st of-March, 1912, re Government grants.—Public. Works Department, Wellington,- forwarding extract from the "N.Z. Gazette" of the 20th Feb., 1912, showing the closing days re shops for the respective districts.— Waimea County Council, stating that the sum of £l7O 9s 3d, being! balance of 1910-11* rate, and an instalment of 1911-12 rate, has been paid to the Board's credit at the Bank of New Zealand, Nelson. Resolutions were passed as follows :—• That all accounts as presented be paid with one exception, until corrected.— That Messrs D. Fry, F. Moss,-G. Deck, and L. Everett be notified to attend the next Board meeting, on May 2nd, re opening'all roads in Little Sydney Valley.—That the sum of £4 be expended on the Little Sydney bridle track.—That the secretary notify the Resident Engineer that Little Sydney road is completed ; also all available moneys for Brooklyn cart road extension have been expended.—That the Commissioner of Crown Lands be asked to forward a surveyor to lay off the road adjoining Brooklyn cart road extension and Little Sydney Bridle Track. —That the Chairman ascertain the area of the foreshore at Riwakai Wharf which the Motiieka Harbour Board has control of.—That the Secretary take the necessary steps re election.—That applications be called for (a) carter with one horse and cart at lis per day; (b) carter with two horses and cart at 14s per day.—That £SO be expended on Lodder's road; work 'to 'consist 'of, forming and gravelling, and repairing culverts and bridges.—Also members meet at Bosselmann's Creek re ferroconcrete culvert, with power -to act. Cheques were signed for £7O 19s 3d.

STOKE. ROAD BOARD. The .'monthly meeting of the- Stoke Road Board vyas Jieli on Saturday. Pre::!it. Messrs W. Coleman (chairman) TB. Chisnall, J. E. Bartlett. J. Best. A. P. All port, and A. G. Best. The Overseer's rtp.ort, which was read and adopted. stated that during the month tlu- drain at BromelTs corner, Tahuna, had b?en finished, and the surplus earth had been used for filling up the low places en the road'. The gravel recently put on the road at Tahuna had been raked ju twici and the large stones broken.- A day's work had been done on Orphanage road, the water tables being ploughed and the ruts filled with gravel. The lessees.of the paddocks at the abattoir had had the hedges trimmed and the willows overhanging the road cut back. A start,had been made with clearing out the watercourse from Fairey's corner to the main road. Gravelling had been done ou Clover road and the culvert cleaned out, while stones had been broken on Kelling's road. The timber had been carted for the bridge in Aniseed Valley. A letter was read from the Clerk of che Waimea County Council intimating that £424 16s 3d, 'being balance of the 1910-11 rate and an instalment of the 1911-12 rate had been paid to the Board's credit at the Bank of New Zealand. Three letters were- received from the rahunanui Progressive Association, (1) complaining of stray cattle on the road ; (2) pointing cut that several hedges in the' township remained untrimmed ; and ,3) invitiig representatives of the .Board to attend the annual meeting of the Association. In regard to the unii-imined hedges .v, rahunanui, it was resolved that notice be given to owners to trim their hedges forthwith. Messrs W. Coleman. J. E. Bartlet', and A. P. Allport were appointed to represent the Board at the proposed conference. Mr. J. Glen was appointed Returning Officer for the forthcoming election of three members, who retire by effluxion of time. The members are. Mr A. P. Allport (Stoke sub-division). Mr. XV. Coleman (Hope), and Mr. J. E. Bartlett (Appleby.) Accounts amounting to £ls 2s were passed for payment.
