CHINESE FRUITERERS IN CHRISTCHURCH

A DEMONSTRTAION AND ITS SEQUEL. (UhnDD Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. .March 10. At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday, Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., dismissed the information against a fruit hawker charged with having obstructed the traffic use of Cashel-street oil February 24th. The case arose out of a demonstrat.on against some Chinese fruiterers who have just opened a shop. Last night there was another demonstration, a large crowd congregating outside a Chinese shop, and blocking the doorway for two or three hours. Three stones were thrown, one of which went through the shop window-. Two men were arrested on charges of being drunk and disorderly, and one for assaulting a policeman. While pulling one of the drunk and disorderly men into a cab a man came behind the constable and kicked him, and was promptly arrested by a policeman behind him. The crowd was fairly quiet, and when it was known that a number of constables in plain clothes were in the crowd, very little active demonstration was made.
