FIRE AT INVERCARGILL.
HEAVY INSURANCES. (United Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. A fire at occurred at midnight- in the premises of N. E. Butcher, tailor, which were gutted. The fire spread to the roof of adjoining shops, in which stocks were considerably damaged by smoke and water. Following are the 'insurances 011 stocks: Butcher, £550 in the New Zealand Office and £450 in the South British ; T. Rankin, jeweller, £9OO in the South British and £9OO in the Victoria; Holmes, bootmaker, £7OO in the New Zealand; G. Gilchrist, chemist, £3OO in the Victoria-, £350 in the Commercial Union, £IOO in the Alliance ; the building being insured for £I2OO in the Norwich Union and £6OO in the Guardian. It is estimated that it will cost £7OO for repairs. The loss on stocks will be heavy.
