, PROPOSAL -TO - SPEND £20,000. OBJECTION BY THE DEPARTMENT. 'TJnitkd Press As3< ici atio n.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Hospital Board proposes to spend £20,000 .on an administrative block of buildings, and sketch plans were approved some time ago. Dr. Valintine, in a recent conference with the Committee of tliei Board, however, objected that the building' was too big for present needs, and he suggested that some thousands might be saved. The Board at a special meeting , to-day discussed the matter. One member, Mr Turnbull, expressed his pleasure at the Government stepping in to prevent "scandalous extravagance,'' but he was the only member to take this attitude. The Board decided to ask Dr. Valintine to meet it in Christchurch next week to further confer t>n the ouestion.
