AMUSEMENT

BARTON BR : O"S.' CIRCUS. OPENING TO-NIGHT. A reminder is given that Messrs Barton Bros.' circus will open on the -wicant section, Trafalgar.street, Victoria Avenue, this evening. The eir_ ens, comprising IS caravans and GO I'orses, arrived from Blenheim to.day, and paraded the streets to the playing of the band, and it caused much interest. The company of 30 artists, includes riders, trapeze artists, contortionists, and jugglers and balancers. Outside thp tent at 7.45 "Dare Devil Tybcll" will slide by his teethfrom the top of the tent, a distance of 300 feet. Popular prices will be charged for admission, and a matinee will be given to.morrow afternoon for the benefit of people living at a distance, and children will be admitted for sixpence to all parts. HAYWARD'S PICTURES. There was another good attendance at the Theatre Royal last evening, «nd Hay ward's current programme v.as well received, the novel introductory film bein.g one that will evidently play the s amc role for future programmes. It is well worth seeing. "The Key of Life" is an Edison pro. Auction; a "Romany Tragedy" is a powerful drama; "True to Death" is ?•, cleverly staged story of the days of ancient Rome and Carthage. "A Trip Over the Canadian Rockies" is one of the best scenics ?liown for a time. The comics are again good, but in this Ca'lino and Foolshead eclipse some of their previous efforts, and Calin as- foreman of works at Muddle, thorp, and Foolshead in the throes of jealousy are really clever caricatures of what is always happening in every day life, even Nelson not being "exempt. The mut-'ic of the orchestra is appropriate and pleasing, and as tonight is th'e last of the present series th'-re should be a large attendance. A change of programme will be made at io.morrow's matinee performance. The* great drama, "Henry' VIII.," will be- shown here on Saturday, the 30th inx't. FULLERS' PICTURES. Wednesday's programme*of Fullers' Pictures will be screened for the secoud and final time tnis evening at the School of Music. "The Coast of New Zealand" will be shown for positively the last time, and this film is of special interest to Nelsohians. An. other fine scenic is "The Gorges of t)u Loup," also in natural colours, and some of the choicest scenery in France is displayed therein. "The Pa the Gazette," latest edition, and "Arabian Pottery" complete the scenic and topical portion of. the series. "Dr Cupid." a fine Vitagraph come, dy. is responsible for some amusing pranks of the rotund "Mrs Mc_ Sweeney." "Madame Rex" is a splendidly acted A.B. drama, and an. other powerful dramatic is entitled "Jim the Mule Boy." "A Drop of Blood" could not be improved upon for for concentrated "horrors." , A number of other fine pictures help to form a most entertaining programme, to which bright orchestral music adds considerably to the evening's pleasure. - ■ To.-morrow afternoon, at 2.30, there is to be another of Pullers' Lollie Ma. tinees. at which every child will be admitted to an] part of the building for 3d (adults Gd). and will also re. eeive a bag- of good lollies. A completely new serjes will be screened.
