FOR .THE SUEZ MAIL. WELLINGTON VERSUS AUCKLAND. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce aioocintly issued- ■& (circular to kindred Chambers suggesting their support in making Wellington, the point of distribution for the weekly English .mail via Suez, instead of A.uckvand, as at present. The circular points out that if an arrangement could be made whereby the, steamer could' leave- Sydney direct for Wellington on the day it arrives there—Monday'—the whole Dominion •would benefit as against the .present time-table. Even Auckland' would receive its share of the mail two days earlier than it does at present, and Wellington at least three. Appended! are some of the replies which have been received : ' .

The secretary of the Oama.ru Chamber writes: —"I have to thank you for your circular letter of 14th inst., enclosing newspaper cuttings dealing with the suggestion that Wellington should be made the distributing port for inward Suez mai.'s. The committee of this Chamber wish me to write you in reply to the effect that in any such arrangements you are endeavouring to have carried out have its entire support and sympathy." The secretary of the South Canterbury (Timaru) Chamber says:— : "l am directed to inform you that this Chamber ■heartily supports, and' is wholly in accord with, the suggestion contained in your circular."

The Stratford Chamber passed a'resolution heartily endorsing the views of the Wellington Chamber. The Nelson Chamber unanimously resolved : "That this Chamber strongly endorses the action of the Wellington Chamber in this matter, and trusts thev will be successful in their endeavours."

The Napier and ' Marton Chambers have replied acknowledging the circular, and stating that it will be considered in due course.
