UNEMPLOYED AT GISBORNE. GISBORNE, Tuesday. Rather ani unsatisfactory position has arisen.' in regard to the employment of labourers on, the Government works around/ Gisborne reoently, with the result that there aa-e a number of unemployed aibout town. It is stated that the Labour Department at Wellington & sending up men for railway works almost every week, and tine authorities here are unable to give them work. Consequently the men paid their fares from Wellington to Gisbomo, with the wromise of the Wellington Labour- Department that they would be taken on at the railway works, and when they arrive at Ofcak-u (the terminus) their services are not required'. There are now, it is reported, about a. dozen men. in' Gisborne who have been sent here by the Labour Department, but work cannot be found for them. NELSON TAILORS AND TAILORESSES. A special meeting of the Nelson Tailors' and Tailoresses' Industrial Union of Workers will be held at Mercer's Rooms to-morrow evening.
