AUSTRALIA'S NEW VICEROY.

ENTERTAINED BY SIR GEORGE REID. "" (\Ree. June 28, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON Tuesday. Sir George Reid, High Commissioner for Australia, entertained Lord Denman, thg Governor-General elect, vt a luncheon at the Empire Club. Lords Tennyson, Chelmsford, Cowdray, and Pentland, Mr 'C. C. Hob'liouse (Financial Secretary to the Treasury), Col. Seely (Under-Secretary for War), Mr Fisher (Australia), and many- other politicians were present. Lord Denman, in responding to the toast of his health, said that he waa going- out to Australia with the advantage of having met in London, many with whom lie would resume acquaintance in Australia. He was alsc going at a time of great Australian prosperity.

Mr Pisher, proposing tl'e toast of Sir George K-eid and Lady Roid, thanked them for the way in which they had looked after the Australian visitors. He assured Lord Denman of a hearty welcome. CONGRATULATIONS FROM NEW ZEALAND. THE METHODIST CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Wednesday.

A deputation' from the vrecont Methodist Conference waited on Lord Islington, the Governor, to-day, and- presented two congratulatory addresses, one for transmission to the King, and ono to His Excellency.
