There was a wonderful display of jewels, uniforms, and drosses, and 100,000 rcses were used upon a trejlis of greenery, giving the house the appearance of- an old-fashioned garden whereof the boxes were deeply recessed. The 'balcony was inscribed with the •words: "Australia," "New Zealand," and the names of other dominions, in pink roses. Sir John Quick, responding for the Australian ' representatives, declared that Australians were even more Imperial than home-staying , Britons in tLeir aspirations. Australians would like to see an Imperial partnership with preferential trade within the Empire, and bear a common share of the burdens and responsibilities.
