HOTEL REDUCTION IN AUSTRALIA.
VICTORIA AND N.S. "WALES COMPARED. Press Association. —^oPYßiani. (Received 10.30 a.-m.) MELBOURNE, Wednesday. The Hotel Licenses R-odiuction Board is closing seven further hotels in Melbourne. Since the Board was created 502 hotels have been closed, the compensation amounting to £194,989 paid. The Chairman made . a comparison of the system with local option, flJid pointed out that in a; similar period, Tinder the latter, New South Wales bad closed 338 (hotels. It. was estimated that by 1914 Victoria- would have closed 800 hotels, and New South Wales 425 under local option. There- was a, tendency in the over-stocked districts under local option to vote continua-ine.
