THE TARIFF DEBATE.
ATTACK ON RECIPROCITY. MR ROOT'S AMENDMENT REJECTED. WASHINGTON Tuesday. The Senate rejected Mr Root's amendment on the Tariff Bill by an overwhelming vote. Further amendments were proffered with a view of raising the whole tariff question. The Reciprocity Bill was bitterly attacked during the sn'ea hours' debate. (Received June 28, 9.30 a.m.) WASHINiGTON, Tuesday. Biuing the Tariff debate in the Senate Mr. LafoUettes accused the newspapers and press agencies of suppressing in their own interests news adverse to Canadian reciprocity. CANADIAN RECIPROCITY. VICISSITUDES OF THE BILL. (Received June 28, 1 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Tuesday. A motion to take the Canadian Reciprocity Bill vote on. July 24 was defeated in the Senate. Xhe Democrats and the Insurgent Republicans oppose the measure; but President Taft seems determined to hold up the Reciprocity Bill until other Bills are passed.
