FIRE ON THE STEAMER VICTORIA.
SOME CARGO' DAMAGED
THE VESSEL UNINJURED. (United Pbess Association.} WELLINGTON, Friday. A fire occurred in the steamer Victoria's INo. 3 hold during the passage from Lyttelton to Wellington. The hatches were battened down_ and the outbreak was subsequently extinguished by the Harbour Board's chemical engine. The outbreak start. Ed in the lower hold against the bulkbead on the port side amongst chaff and potatoes. All the cargo has been discharged, and! about 20 tons were damaged by heafc and smoke, but the steam'er suffered no structural injury. The damaged product had been shipped in the South for Auckland.
