INTENTIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT. VIEWS OF A RUSSIAN STATESMAN. "FINGERS BURNT IN COLD WATER." (Received April 21, 9.50 a.m) LONDOJN, Thursday. The House of Commons is engaged in. committee on clause 2 of t/h-e Veto Bill. Mr. Asquith said he intended to pass this olause with/in a fortnigiht, and semd the measure to the House of Lords on May 16. The "Telegraph" is publishing views of foreign statesmen, on the Lords Veto BSI. Coamt Witt- (Pi.ussit) sa-ys t-hat as a conservative, he sympathises with the House of Lords, and is- truly sorry that it oom/miitted the mistake of rejecting t'he Budget. Unless he was mis-iniform-ed, the Upper Chamiber had managed to "burn its fingers in coud water. The Lords had set their face against reiorm, which, however, tJhey were now willing to accept.
