EARTH EATING DISEASE.

Dr. Drone!, director of the Tropical Diseases Institute, reports that the earth eating disea>e is prevalent in the Cairns district, where a number of children were treated in the hospital every week. The disease, as far as children were concerned, left a permanent bligh'ting influence on their mental and moral development. Touching on the question whether white men could stand the strain of cur ting -ugar cane in the tropics, Dr. Hrcnel said he was of opinion that alcholisni and other debilitating habits did much more to impair the hvalih of the workers 1 lian cane cutting.
