NAPIER COMPETITIONS.
A NELSON PRIZE-WINNER. [United Pb.ess Association.] NAPIER, Monday. The annual musical and elocutionary competitions opened at the Theatre tonight, the House being packed in every part. The proceedings were opened by the Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown), who delivered a ' short and appropriate speech. To-night's contests resulted as follows :—Ladies' humorous elocution, own choice. Miss G. Gallien (Hastings), 1; Miss L. Parson (Wellington) 2; Miss S. R-apley (Wellington) 3. Tenor eolo: C. Prime (Napier) 1; E. Richards (Nelson) 2. Piano (seniojj : Miss B. Mackay (Dannevirke) 1; Miss C. Masters (Thames) 2. Vocal solo, girls under 18: Miss F. Sutherland (Wanganui), Miss T. Petersen (Carterton), and Miss M. Arnott (Napier), tied. For the second elocution event (gentlemen). A. E. Russel (Napier) 1 ; B. A. Brewer (Napier) 2. The judge of music is Mr R. Parker (Wellington), and of elocution, Mr B. J. Dolan (Napier).
