THE STOKE RIFLES,
The half-yearly meeting of tin Stoke Rifles was held at Stoko on Wednesday last, when there was a •rood muster of members. Captain Harmmond, who was in the chair, reported that the company's funds were in a very satisfactory state. The corps had in the bank £98 12s 7d, and in tho battalion uniform accouut £121
os. During the half-year 13 new momlbcrs were enrolled.
A report was read by; . Corporal Sharland, secretary for the Shooting Committee, which showed a credit balance of £4, with several amounts still due.
After a discussion on ranges, it was decided to rent the Brightwater' range in order to give the shooting men more practice at longer ranges.
The question of procuring a co.-n---pany's challenge belt was considered, and it was decided that the matter stand aver till next year. •It was afterwards agreed to procure a trophy to be fired for annually, all handicaps to count, nine competitions, and six to count. Several trophies were promised for the season, and two cash prizes for {he first two members of the com-, pany making possibles. It was resolved to send a team of five or six men to compete at the next Rifle Association meeting to bo held at Trentham in March, 1910, and to pay part of their expenses. A shooting competition will take place at the Brightwater range next Saturday afternoon, when several trophies will be competed, for, members going out by the afternoon train. The country members will attend church parade on Dominion Day at Richmond, the Nelson section assembling with the Nelson companies at Owing to the battalion inspection parade being altered to the 29th inst., it was decided to hold the squad -parades next week.
