OPENING OF THE INQUEST. |

An inquest on the body of Ernest Winter, of Motupipi, who was accidentally poisoned on Wednesday "last as the result of drinking oi! Of mirbane in mistake for tea, was opened at the Court House, Takaka, on Thursday before Mr T. Baigent, J.P., acting-coroner, and a jury. After the evidence of several witnesses had been taken the inquest was adjournd to enable Mrs Winter to bo present at the inquiry. The evidence disclosed that deceased was stumping in a paddock about 35 chains from his house at Motupipi. He left home last Wednesday morning about 8 o'clock, taking with him a bottle of tea and a bottle containing oil of mirbane, a preparation used m connection with the explosive rackarock. The deceased was working by himself, and had fired one or two shots, when he was seen returning before 9 o'clock. On arriving he said he was a dead man, and that he had taken "a pull at the wrong botH tie." Dr Adams, in his evidence, said that oli of mirbane was nitro benzine ,a deadly 'poison, and that 15 drops would be fatal. "■■.-_ ' .
