THE FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.
SESSION AT AUCKLAND.
THE UTILITY OF FIRE BOARDS.
[United Peess Association.]
AUCKLAND, Monday. The thirtieth annual Conference of the United Fire Brigades' Association opened to-day, when 101 delegates attended.
The Presdent, Mr Wildish, in his opening address, regretted that so few Brigades had taken advantage of legislation for the constitution of Fire Boards. This, he believed, was chiefly due to tho Brigades not having fully understood the legislation. Tbey had had complaints that the Insurance Companies were not contrbuting towards Fire Brigade maintenance. There they had a scheme which made it compulsory on ihe companies to contribute. Ho trusted the delegates! would return to their Brigades charged with information that would enable them to act in the direction of establishing Fire Boards.
