AMUSEMENTS.

MAsKEI.YNE AND DEVANT'S

MYSTERIES

1 hei.- wa a i;fn«t audieiu-e at the Theat iv Royal on Saturday r-vfiiing tn witness tii,- second performance of the Maskelyne and Devant Mysteries Company. The programme was the same as on the opening night, and has been fully described? As on the previous evening the audience were completely bewildered by the extraordinary performance. Many clever things have been done on the Nelson stage in the past, and audiences have had a glimmer of satisfaction in the thought that they 'knew how it was done," but this is not so with in connection with the magic name of Maskelyne, and all who patronise the company realise to the full (he meaning of the word amazement. Mr Barclay Gammon's clever suffragette song and humourisms were a show in themselves. Mr Owen Clark and Gintaro were again a great success and were rewarded with repated applause. The third programme of Maskelyne and Devant's successful season will be presented at the Theatre Royal tonight. Mr Maskelyne' s famous illusion, "Elixir Vita?." will be performed. In it a decapitated man will walk about the stage with his own head under his arms, and still talking. Mrs Daffodil's seance, aimed at the exposure of the methods of so-called spiritualistic mediums, is a clever sketch, and caused a sensation in England. Most of the wonderful doings attributed to supernatural agencies are reproduced by merely material means. Mr Owen Clark will introduce a budget of new enchantments. ; Gintaro. the Japanese juggler, will be seen in new feats, whilst Mr Barclay Gammon, whose laughing philosophy* is full of infectious merriment, will perform new tunes and tarradiddles. To-morrow wilt be the last night- of the season.

The Nelson Citizens' Band will give a well-selected programme of music in tho Botanical Gardens on Wednesday evening. The Band will render a grand national fantasia, "Beauties of Ireland," when Bandsman Fenomore will render a comet solo. "The Last Bose of Summer." Mr F. N. Jones, jr., will be in attendance with his magnophone.
