POULTRY NOTES
NELSON LAYING COMPETITION.
Neither the weekly nor individual totals were as good during the last week as in the previous week of the Nelson Laying Competition. The best laying was done by Edelsten's White Leghorns (26). Green's Silver Wyandottes (2G), Sail's White Leghorns (25), Tucker's White Leghorns (25), and W. Hockey's Brown Leghorns (25). During the week three pens got over the 1200 mark — Savage's, Mrs Eogers', and Coleman and Balck's. This gives each bird in the pen an average of over 200, and any hen that puts up that number is a good 'un. Three more pens should reach 1200 this week, and before the competition closes several pens should prove to be composed of 200---egg birds. There has been no change in the six leading pens, but Savage's pen has improved its position, gaining five eggs in the week on the second pen (Mrs Eogers'-. and being now 32 to the good. Colemau and Balck's pen remains third, followed by Frost's, W. Hockey's, and Jacka's pens?. The monthly prize for February was won by F. Edelsten, whose pen laid 113 eggs. Frost was a close second with 112, and then followed Solomon 105, Mrs Eogers 104, W. Hockey 103, W. O. Sail 99, Jacka 95, Coleman and Balck 93, Miss Sail 91, C. Shuttleworth 90.
