A CANCEROUS COW.

At the Magistrate's Court to-day, be- [ fore -Mr Fitzherbert, S.M.. a farmer j named John Wilkinson was charged by the iSto.k Department with having negle.H:d to give notice to the Inspector of Sloik that one of his rows was suffering Tram a malignant growth on one of the eves, the defendant having suspected the cow to be so suffering. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution the information was amended by the inclusion cf the word cancer. The evidonce disclosed that the milk from the cow was not sent to th? factory, but was used to feed the calves. The defendant denied that he knew, the cow was diseased, tie considered the eye had be?n injured perhaps in the bush. . Mr Pitzherbert, in giving judgment, -aid • No doubt the cow was suffering cancer. Only one day was mentioned n the information, and the defendant •ou ld be convicted and fined £5, with costs £5 5s 6d. The minimum penalty was £5 for every day of the offence.
