HOTEL DESTROYED BY FIRE.
[ NUtROW ESCAPE OF TIIK j INMATES. | _ I [United Press Association.] j WEI.LIMJiON', Wednesday. Tli? huti'l at Paikakarika, lessee Jtr Hilton, and owner Mr Anyon, was burned down this morning. Nothing was saved but the piano. It is supposed that the outbreak was started in the diningroom. Later. The hotel contained 35 rooms. The fire was first discovered by the launchvss at five o'clock this morning. There w^re 31 boarders in the house, who were aroused by the housemaid. The boarders escaped in th^ir nightcSothes, and the licensee had only his coat and trousers. Absolutely nothing was saved, and so fiercely did the fire burn that in a quarter of' an hour after the alarm war- given the building was in ruins. Mr Hilton 1..?t about £80 worth of jewellery, and the boarcbrs lost valuable- to a smalbr amount. The building was insured for i MPO, and the stock and furniture lor £400. both in the Liverpool, and London, and Globe Office.
