HOSPITAL & CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last evening, there being present: Messrs H. Baigent (Chairman) Everett, Sheat, Field; Grace; Hoult; Gill; and Macmahon. Payments were authorised as follows: — Hospital, £282; Charitable Aid, £821. It was resolved to ask the architect for the new Home to furnish information in regard to the supervision of the erection of the Home. On Cr Everett's motion, the clerk was instructed to keep a separate account: of the building and furnishing of the new Home, and the sale of the old Home. ' A woman applied for assistance for herself and children. After a long discussion it was resolved that assistance be granted provided the Inn 1 band took out a prohibition order against himself. Messrs Everett, Sheat aud Field took the stand that the Board should give relief to the wife and children— that they should not suffer for the hus-band's misdeeds; and tliree amendments were moved with the object of securing

that assistance be given whether the husband took out tlie order or not. The majority of tho Board, however, favoured the conditional motion which also provided for the matter being brought under the notice of the police.

Mr Griffin notified that the new Home for Old People would be fiuiyhed in about a week's time.

to meet the Board on April 7tli to discuss the question of discharged consumptives 1 . Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals informed the Board that the matter of reclaiming aud educating children living amidst vicious surroundings was under consideration, anil provisions to meet such cases would be included if a Hospital Bill were brought down next session. The Towu members of the Board were deputed to arrange with the City Council regarding the disposal of the old Home for Old People. It was also resolved that the auctioneer defer the sale of the building, and that the Town Committee confer with the auctioneer as to the reserve to be placed on the sections of land. There was some discussion as to what was to be done with the clothing of the old people on their removal to the new Home. Dr. Maekay said that all clothing that could not be boiled should be destroyed. Members of the Board generally agreed that no risks should be taken with the inmates' clothes and effects; but as the "shift" will net take place bef'niv llio next meeting of the Board, no resolution on the matter was passed. Tenders were received as follows. — Milk.— York Bros., 2 : ftd a quart, accepted (only tender). Meat —F. W. Faircy. 3d a lb. for beef, mutton, and lamb; Id for suet; accepted (only tonder). Bread.— l. Johns l'/jd a lb; flour, 11s 1001b. fhas.' McLean, 6'/ t d a 41b. loaf; flour, 3s 3d for 25 lb?. It was resolved to accept Mr. McLean 's tender for bread, provided 21b. and 41b. loaves were made, and Mr Johns' for flour. Coal. — Neale and Haddow 33s a ton for Puponga, and 36s for Westport; Lightband and Co.. 33s a ton for State coal. — Both tenders were accepted thus giving a choice of three coals. , Wood.— Birch: E. The tenders for groceries were referred to tho Town Committee. Tho matter of tho acceptance of tenders for furniture for the new Homo for Old People way left to the Town Committee and" Messrs Shfat and Gill. , The Hospital return showed 07 patients on the list, of whom 21 were received during February. During the month 20 patients left 14 being cured, 13 relieved, one died, and imc was removed to the Mental Hospital. Tho Board then. rose.
