THE ISLAND TRADE.
[United Pbess Association.]
AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Mr Jas. Carroll, Minister in Charge of the Island Dependencies, has completed negotiations with an Auckland firm for a schooner to run between Niue and Auckland. The ordinary island services, he says, do not fit in with Niue, and despite- the fact that tho schooner Ysabel trades regularly with that island, a proportion of the trade is filtering through Tonga to Samoa. The Minister, therefore, deemed it advisable to arrange this sclioonor service with Auckland with the object of trying. to secure the business for New Zealand. Mr Carroll hopes that with a little encouragement the resources of Niue may be considerably developed. A doctoj has also been appointed to Niue to fill the vacancy caused the retirement of the former doctor in charge.
