ASHBURTON OPPOSITION WITHDRAWN. [Unithd Pbess Assocuhon.J ASHBURTON, Friday. At a public meeting last night, addressed by members of the Christchurch Canal League, the following ; resolution was carried: — Tbat this 'meeting, now understanding that it is not intended to include the Ashburton district in any rating area for the Christchnrch canal, desires its representatives on the Lyttelton Harbour Board not to place any impediment in the way of the Christchurch district obtaining such legislation :<s shall enable ratepayers interested to decide the question of constructing tho Christchurch-Sumner canaL
