THERE has long been a generally expressed desire that some permanent Memorial could be with us in Nelson tc commemorate the past services of Colonel Albert Pitt, so long associated with the history of Nelson and the Province — whose services to both embrace a period of some 40 years. It is deemed most fitting that a Statue being erected in the Queen 6 Gardens, opposite the South African Memorial he himself unveilod, and under the shadow of which he made his last patriotic speech in Nelson, would remmd the stranger, and coming generations alike, of one so universally esteemed for his i many qualities when among us. To ensure a widespread participation in this, subscriptions from a shilling upwards, will be received ; that all, including tho youth of both sexes, may join in honouring our old Commandant of Nelson City and Province, many of whose Volunteers were so long associated with him from far and near, the confidence and affection also of whose clients and constituents but deepened with the flight of years.
