Macdonald moved, "That it is advisable in the best interests of the Dominion that competitive designs be invited from architects for , all buildings of the value of £3000 rs- ; quired to be erected by the State. Mot only would the opportunity of >emp!oy- : ing such designs be a great incentive to the younger men of the profession, ! but would greatly add to beauty and , economy connected with the buildings | required for carrying on the work of the State" Some discussion ensued, during which the architectural branch of the Public Works Department was adversely criticised by Mr T. K. Macdonald, and : was warmly defended by Mr J. Barr ! and the Attorney-General. . Eventually the motion was with- ) drawn.
