CORRESPONDENCE.
THE NELSON WATERWORKS. To the Editor. Sir, — In conneotion with the wall at the new Reservoir, it seems strange that the City Surveyor should recommend certain works costing £2000 odd to make the wall good and efficient, whilo tho la*e contractor should quietly como in a recommendation for the purpose at a cost of £800 odd. Why did not the City Surveyor see for himself that tho woTks costing the smaller amount of money would be sufficient when he made his report? In any case, if the works suggested by the late contractor are quite sufficient for the purpose, tenders should be called, as there are a considerable number of people in Nelson who can do concrete work, and all should hay* a chance of tendering, when the Council might save a fair amount of money in getting the work executed. The public are very annoyed and dissatisfied over the bunglo that has been made In connection with these works, and they aro steadily watching events. It therefore beholds tho Council to act in a sensible and business-like way in carrying out any further works in connection with the new dam. , I am, etc., cms.
