A PROTEST.
To the Editor. Sir. — As tho mouthpiece of the Waterworks family in Brcok-street Valley. I am requested to formally protest against the Mayor's desire to see one of the Councillors flooded out in this vicinity. We would point out that when these waterworks were opened in 1867. it was by a ceremony of a partly religious character, when the Bishop of I Nelson engaged in prayer and a hymn of his own composition was sung. We are very proud of the religious traditions associated with this spot, and, without expressing any opinion as to the desirableness, or otherwise, of drowning any Councillor or even of the Mayor and all the Councillors, we think a more suitable and usual spot for such purposes, such as the mouth of the Maitai. might be selected. On behalf r>f the Waterworks family, I am. etc., THE WATER-METER.
