LABOUR POLITICS IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

The method Qf procedure in selecting candidates for Parliament has caused a great "uproar at the Political Labour League Conference. The. stuffing of ballots : was frequently alleged. Mr Rae accused the Executive and the Parliamentary members of the party of discreditable tactics at the last election, alleging that principles had been sacrificed to gain seats. Some unlooked-for opposition was of-' fered to a motion for a shorter working week, at the annual Political Labour Conference at Sydney. Country delegates said that an. eight-hour day met with little sympathy from the farming" community, and Mr Trefle, M.L.A., says the "Telegraph,'." > put the case of the drover. It was quite impracticable, he said, that bush workers of this description" could ever hope; to realise a 44-honr week. A delegate, representing the butchers' employees,, said that such restricted hours of :la-. bour would be out of the question in the trade he followed. Looking at the ladies, he asked would, they favour butchers' shops being closed earlier than they at present were? "Yes," they answered, in chorus. The butcher, without mentioning names, remarked that he could see among the delegates present several who late on Saturday night had requested him to put their, meat in the ice chest until Sunday morn-' ing. At this a lady, with a shrillvoice, exclaimed, "Butchers are the - most independent lot of people I ever did see !" Then, recollecting herself, she added, "And good luck to them.'-
