A large meeting of the Australasian section of the London Chamber of Com merce and others interested adopted resolutions of protest against the imposition of further duties on British goods, which, despite the financial support accorded Australian industries by merchants and investors, Will seriously harm manufacturing industries in the United Kingdom; declaring that the preference given British goods, although small, is thankfully received in the hope that it will shortly be increased ; and that the sudden levying of the new duties, especially on goods bought before the new tariff became operative, would cause considerable inconvenience) and loss in Australia and Britain, nnless the time of levying was postponed. -■ — ,77 — Z^.
