'■* "Ouir teacbersj," said Mr Si. C. Thomson, M.H.R., at the meeting of the Southland^ Education Boafd on Friday, "should be instructed to enter up. the .full names of their pupils on the examination certificates which are issued by them. An instance of the hardship a mistake .may occasion was 'brought to my- notice, not very long ago. A boy's, name appeared oh the certificate as V 'Fred,,' . by which . name he was known .to his companion?, but hisbaptismal name, was 'Arthur John. When he placed this, certificate before a certain department he was practically charged with,. fraud." The Board at once resolved (says the "Southland Times") to instruct teachers to exercise care in seeing that the full and true - names of pupils . were inscribed on certificates and registers.
