THE TOWN CLERK'S SALARY.
FRICTION ON THE NEW FIRE' BOARD.

DUNEDIN, Tuesday The City Council, by a majority of one, decided to increase the salary of the Town Clerk from £800 to £1000, consequent on him having taken over the duties of ln& City. Engineer also. Owing to one of the Fire Insurance Company's representatives, Mr Cray, having been appointed Chairman of the «, Dtmedin Fire Board, the Mayor, Mr London, has tendered his resignation as a member of the Board.
Cr. Small, one of the City Council's representatives on the Fire Board, has also resigned out of sympathy with the Mayor, and as a protest against the action of the third representative of the Council, Or. Sullivan, an insurance agent, proposig Mr Cray for the Chairmanship of the Fire Board.
