Mr S. Fittall, Town Clerk, was voted o the chair. Mr W. D. Harkness, Sec■etary, read the balance-sheet, which showed a balance in hand of £11, this, lov.ever, was part of o special donation af £13, raised some time ago, to augment tho decreased grant from the Board. He said the Inspectors' report of the schools was highly satisfactory, and they had, through increased attendance, secured a welcome addition to tho staff of a pupil teacher. He moved the adoption of the repor tand balancesheet. Mr Talbot seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The circular on the Nelson system of religious teaching was read, and fres discussion was invited. Mr Buttle moved : "That the incoming Committee be requested to give the question of religious teaching on the lines of the Nelson system their most favourable consideration." Mr Talbot seconded the motion, which was supported by Messrs Wray, Papps, Cowles, and Rev. T. A. Meyer, and finally carried unanimously. Some d'iscussion took place on the question whether the proposed new Girls' School in Nelson was to be paid for out of the ordinary building grant, but as no definite information was available, no resolution was passed. Votes of thanks were accorded to the retiring Committee, the honorary auditor, Mr Pi-trif, and the teaching stall. The following Committee was then elected : Mesu-s" \V. D. Harkness 25 ; J. Hunt, 24; J. Bartlett, 22; J. F. Papps, 21 ; T. Holland, 19 ; A. G. Wray 14; J. Goodman, 13. At the subsequent meeting of the Committee, Mr Papps was re-elected Chairman, and Mr Harkness Secretary.
