SENSATIONAL ATTEMPT TO MURDER.
[Uniteu Press Association.—Copyeight.] TWO SHOTS FIRED FROM A REVOLVER. A MARVELLOUS ESCAPE. THE ASSAILANT OVERPOWERED. AFTER A DESPERATE STRUGGLE. (Received 10 a.m.) PERTH, Wednesday. A sensational attempt has b'een made to shoot Captain Hare, Commissioner of Police. Captain Hare was sitting in his office reading a report, when exCorporal Tyler rushed in, exclaiming : "I've got you this time !" and he fired a revolver point blank. The 'bullet smashed through the paper in Captain Hare's hand and lodged in the wall. Captain Hare grappled with Tyler, who again fired. This time the bullet struck Captain Hare's shirt front, which was heavily starched, and was thus caused to glance aside and struck Captain Hare's shoulder. The bullet did not penetrate the skin. Assistance then arrived, and the maddened assailant was overpowered. (Received 10.42 a.m.) PERTH, Wednes. Tyler resigned from the Police two years ago as a protest against being fined on a charge of insubordination. He had since nursed a grievance, continually tryin- to <?et his case re-opened.
