" WIT & WISDOM OF METHODIST PREACHERS."
RECITAL BY REV. 11. L. BLAMIRES. A good audience greeted Mr Blamirer. in St. John's Church last night, when he gave his recital on the "Wit and Wisdom of Methodist Preachers." Mr A. A. Lucas occupied the chair. For nearly tw.o hours the speaker susI tamed with ease the keen interest of his audience as he brought forth samples- of original utterances, smart repartees, and sanctified wit tbat had characterised the past masters of pulpit oratory. Possessed of a good voice and considerable powers of mimicry Mr Hlainires greatly amused the audience by his impersonation of Yorkshire local preachers. Scottish divines, dissatisfied wives, and bewildered Dutchmen. Yet in all his humour \he lecturer failed not to "point the moral." and evidently knew haw "happily to steer From grave to gay, from lively to severe." During the evening solos were rendered by JMisses Richards and Smith, and Mr t. Taylor. Mr Blamires will give an evangelistic address this evening.
