HARBOUR MATTERS.
Harbour mattars are somewhat quiet owing to the Government requiring a fresh survey of the harbour before further considering Mr Marchant'B ecbeme for improvement. An adverse report on Mr Maichant's proposals was given some time ago by the Government Engineer, and the demand for a further survey is owing to the persistency of the Board in its support to the scheme involving a maximum expenditure o in preference to an alternative one estimated to cost over .£6O 000, the latter being similar to one propounded by Mr Hales, the Government Engineer some two years ago, The Harbour Board, being anxious to get on with the work of improving the harbour, has consented to pay for a further survey.
