RICHMOND. THE METHODIST CHURCH. The quarterly meeting of tho Richmond (Methodist) Circuit) was held at ' Spring Grove on Wednesday afternoon last. The Eev. S. H. D. PerVman Was in the chair, and there was a fair repre- . sentation of officials. I | The number of members was stated to be practically the same as it was I last quarter. Although there had been several removals to other parts, yet new members had been admitted to take the place of those who had left the cir- ' euit. The balance-sheet was read and j was considered highly satisfactory, a substantial credit balance being re- ' ported. The Sabbath Schools were reported to be doing good work, and a minute was recorded expressive pf regret at the departure from the district of Mr F.. Cresswell, and of high appre- ' ciation of his long and faithful ser- ' vices as Superintendent of the Stoke : Sabbath School. . It was unanimously decided to purchase a suitable conveyance for the minister, and notice of motiorP was given concerning an increase of stipend. It was resolved to hold the next meeting at Hope on July 17th. In the evening a circuit social was held in the Spring Grove Church, when a very enjoyable time was spent. Mr W. Lightband contributed a song ,and interesting accounts were given by Mr H. Buttle and the Minister of the proceedings at the recent Conference h< Christchurch. Supper on a liberal scale was provided by the ladies of the Church, and a hearty vote of thanks to them, and the Benediction, brought an exceedingly pleasant evening to a close. It has eeen practically decided In future to hold a social in connection with each quarterly meeting. The Rev. IL L. Sianiifes, Organising Secretary of the Methodist Church "Bible Class Movement in New Zealand", is to comemnce a mission (more especially for young men and young women) in the Richmond Church on Sunday afternoon and evening. On Monday evening the Missioner will give his humorous and highly interesting recital entitled "Wit and Wisdom of Methodist Preachers." A small charge will be made in order to defray the expenses of the Mission. On the following ev_nin_ (Tuesday and Friday), admission will, be free to all who | may care io atterid, when addresses will be given ori "Manliness and Christian Life."
