FIRES.

— — ♦ — (Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. A fire was discovered this morning in the premises in the Octafion occupied by Myers, pawnbroker, Wilhelmsen, hairdresses, and Mills, Dick and Co., nrinters and publishers. The cause of the outbreak is inexplicable, as no one slept on the premises. The pawnbroker's .shop was Rutted, and the rest of the building was more or less damaged by water. The premises were owned by Mrs Cutten's Trust, and insured for £1400 in the New Zealand offics; c The insurance on Myesfs pawnbroking stock was £100 in the North British office, and on his tailor-' ing stock £115 in the Phoenix. Wilhelmsen's stock was insured for £75 in the Royal office. A fire broke out just before midnight in the wool and grain stores of Duthie and Co., Milton. Though the fire had a strong hold and the building was old half the premises were saved. The fire^originated in the rear of the building,*, where a quantity of guano and i grain was saved. The books and pa- j pers"' of the firm were also saved. The j origin of the fire is traceable to live i ashes. j 1 <
