(Received May 5, 9.22 a.m.) LONDON, Yesterday. A proposol is made to amalgamate eight of the principal milling firms in London to compete against the American millers. ' The Federal Steam Navagation Company's steamer Somerset and the Northern Steamship Company's steamer Karawa have been launched on the Clyde and at Dundee respectively. Weddel, Turner and Co. have secured the admiralty contract for the conveyance of fifty thousand tons of coal from Westport to Hong Kong. OAMARU, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Margaret Andrews was fined .£2O and costs or a month's imprisonment for sly errog selling. HAWERA, This Day. A man named Joseph Hathan, charged with a breach of the Post Office Act at Eltham, pleaded guilty in the District Court to-day, and was fined .£5 on each of two charges. Previous good character was taken into account. WELLINGTON, This Day. Judgment was reserved to-day in an action brought by Mr. Kerr, late stock inspector, against the Crown, claiming damages for having been deprived of his office. ■
