THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Borough Council meet on Tuesday (to-night), lt is reported that matters have been satisfactorily adjusted with the County Council, and as the amount of overdraft liability to be taken is considerably smaller than anticipated we may at no distant day see marks of progress in Motueka. If not to any great extent, wo may at least look for better roads. The attitude taken by some members of the County Council during the recent discussion on the county's position nn-,-that Motueka has seceded is 50u.... peculiar. The suggestion that certain sections of main roads in different parts of tho county should bo administered by the Road Boards is certainly an admission, of weakness, and shows that some of the Councillors think that as an administrative body the County Council is not a success. It does not argue in favour of the system of increasing the area and functions of the County Councils as proposed in the Local .Government Bill we have heard so much about. aangißHßßi i.nu, i_»
