An elderly man, named Lewis Johneon, jumped off the wharf to-day to .drown bimself, but was rescued by a man named Cox. He said bis life was a misery to him. He was discharged Irom tbe Costly Home a few days ago, and bis conduct lately bas been very eccentric. Another engineer has arrived at Auckland wi h proposals for the acquisition of the tramway and the application of clectiic traction, viz., Mr William Bing» ham, who represents the New Zealand Electric Light and Traction Company of London. WELLINGTON, April 2.1. The Government have appointed Dr Wm. Pennefather, formerly private secretary to Sir Wm. Jervois, lo be temporary judge during the absneo of Judge Williams.
