THE WAKATIPU-LAIRA COLLISION.
[United Press Association.] DUNEDIN, April 22. Tho inquiry into the sinking of the barque Laira by tbe s.s. Wakatipu, was advanced a stage to-day, when Captains MacCulluui and Stevens, Harbormaster and Deputy respectively, woro examined, principally as to the depth of water iu the channel. Tbe Collector of Customs intimated that he proposed to formu'ate a charge against Captain Smith, of tho Waka' ipu. Tlio latter agreeing to accept this as sufficient, a summons has been issued in connection with the inquiry.
