TOWN SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

A meeting of tho Town Sohools Committee was hold yesterday evening, when there wero present Messts Bond (ohairman), Cooke. Look, Grant, and Finney. A letter was received from tho Eduoation Board decliniug to pay for tho draimgo works at Hampclon-.atreot sohool. It was resolved to mako fresh application for tho moiiey, Several members pointed out that tho Committee was driven to tho expends ture by tho urgency of tho case, there being an outbreak of typhoid fever and diphtheria at tno time. A letter was road from Miss Gascoigne with reference to the work at Toi Toi Valley school. The Chairman reported that he had mado temporary arrangements in the dilation suggested. A letter was road from the Lduoation Board about the appointment of a probationer to tho sohool. It was resolved that Miss Moore be ap pointed probationer in the Hardy-street school, and Master Street in the Bridgestreet school. Mr H. V. Gully was appointed auditor, Lotters were received from Mrs Evans, M.A. and Mr W, Look giving their onnsont to be nominated for the vaojnt seat on the Eluoation Board oauHed by tho death of Mr H. Olayden. On a ballot being taken Mr Look was nominated by the Oommitteo, Mies Jucobajn toudered her resignation as assistant teacher at the Toi Toi Valley Sohool, It was decided to forward it to the Board and at the same time to recommend to the Board that Miss Hughes bo appointed in her place, and that two extra probationers bj appointed, Thia arrangement would tffeot a caving to iha Board of £10 par annum. The Town Clerk reported two oases of diphtheria in tho Waimea Road. The head master of tho Bridge street sohool applied to tho Committee for increased accommodation at the infant division of the sohool. It was resolved to defer tho applioition until the building grant should come ou for consideration by tha Board. It waa resolved that the chairman and secretary draft tho annual rep>rt for presentation to tho householders, and that a special meeting bo held tj consider tho eamo. It was decided to apply to tho Board for pa., men t of Miaits Moore u».d Laird and Master Street for temporary teaching. Accounts to tlu amouut of £43 Is were passed for payment. Some disuusiion took place as to tho Easter holidays, and it was ultimately resolved that the ohools close from Thursday 14th April, and resume work on Monday tho 2">th, tho extenfaion this year being on uco flint of the extra work whioh devolved en tho teaohers through the Jubilee.
