Reefton Guardian and Inangahua Times, October 12. The battery returns last week from the Globe, No. 2 South Dark, and Cumberland were 680oz amalgam. The last named cleaned up with 186oz of retorted gold from 249 tons, and last month's work at the United Alpine gave 4830z of retorted gold from 670 tons, payiDg a sixpenny dividend equal to £800. Crashing from the Big River was resumed on Thursday lasb and another good return from this mine may be hoped for at the ;'end of this week, The trial crushing of 100 tons of stone from the north block in the Fiery Cross is now being made and the return whioh may be expected to be known during this week will be looked for with interest ; driving on the reef in the low level of this mine is proceeding. Work is to be commenced at once in the Golden Hill lease. Mr J. Martin has been appointed mine manager, and it has been decided to continue driving (he old winze on the reef. This Company has certainly a most encouraging outlook; a solid body of payable stone has been followed for a depth of 40 feet and the stone has every appearance of permanenoy. The same may ba Baid of the Golden Bar, which lies immediately south, then there are several outcrops of gold bearing stone in this lease and the one lately diaooyered by Mr IST.
